The fact that traditional marketing is becoming increasingly unpopular to consumers is undeniable. In the past, many people prefer to purchase CDs and DVDs in order to avoid the advertisements on Television. Now, as we start to the new era of network marketing, display ads and pop-ups also seems not that effective. Today, with the smart phones, most people don’t even give a look at billboard ads nearby.
Many companies today have already realized the power of social media, and started using them as a tool to spread their messages and target their audience. But as a brand, if you really want to succeed in promoting yourself on social medias, the importance and influence of content marketing will be a “must-know”.
First, What is Content Marketing?
“Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.” said by Joe Pulizzi, the Founder of Content Marketing Institute.
Engaging with your community around an idea instead of a product, that all it’s about. Different from traditional marketing, when you create something for content marketing, you should always try to serve the community first, sharing information, ideas and experience that benefit others with ought directly asking for anything in return.
In this blog, I want to share with you some of my key learnings about how to succeed in running social media accounts through content marketing (all based on personal experience, readings and class lectures).
Key 1: Know your target audience well
Know Your Audience – this is the #1 most important thing you should get start with! Always remember that content marketing is your tool to attract the target audience to your platforms, and this requires you to clearly understand the needs and wants of your target audience.
Do a deep research before you start your plan. “What are the age groups of my target audience?” “What are their #1 goal or needs?” After you know what your target audience are looking for, you find it easier to create a content that your audience will resonate with.
Key 2: Find your core positioning values
After knowing what audience what, it is also very important to know how you should positioning yourself to make you different from others. What makes you different? Why I should follow you, not others?
Key 3: Don’t wait the content itself to go “viral”
“Go viral” is never a thing that you can just sit and wait for. No matter how confident you are with the content you create, you need to put some effort to spread it out. Share the content to all your suitable social media assets, and make sure your titles are appealing enough for your target audience!
Key 4: create keywords/stories for your videos
It is one of the most effective way of using content marketing and social media. When you post a video on Youtube, why not write an article about it. Youtube’s videos are categorized by keywords and tags. Once you finish writing a story for your video, just copy paste it to the description part and this will make your video rank higher! Just that simple!
Key 5: Realize the power of visual content
Visual content is a useful vehicle for your messaging. According to a research, people remember 10% of what they hear, 20% of what they read, and 80% of what they see and do. So don’t forget to attach a photo with your post to make it more effective!
Key 6: Keep following up
Last, but not least, keep interacting and following up with your audience: how do they think about you? Alter your plan according to that. Encourage your readers to comment, and return to them with quick response. High activity level will also help you stand out from the competitions.
All in all, your content marketing and social media activities are interdependent and promote each other. So just make a social media marketing plan again; hopefully with these tips, you will never lose your attractions to audience!
